AKG Perception 420
AKG Perception 420 is a full featured condenser microphone. It has large dual diaphragm condensers to capture sounds from a variety of sound sources. You can use these mics for almost anything like vocals, piano, drum overheads, flute, guitars etc. It has the trustworthiness of AKG’s super-brand at very affordable price. Although this mic is targeted for home studios like other mics in the Perception series. However, the Perception 420 is a good mic for mid and pro studios as well. So, let me first rate the mic on our review parameters and then we will go into the features and pros cons.

Besides the above, there are few very useful features as well. The front portion of the mic has a pattern selector switch. You can flick to the desired polar pattern using this switch just above the AKG logo. You can choose between omni directional, cardiod and figure of eight polar patterns. Thus, you can use this mic in a variety of configurations. Furthermore, there is a bass roll – off switch on the back. This can be used to cut low frequency rumble during recording. There is also a 20 db pad switch on the back of the P420. This 20 db pad comes handy while recording high volume sources such as drums.

AKG Perception 420 Pros & Cons
- Trusted brand product at low price. It also comes with good features such as polar pattern selector, bass cut-off and 20 decibel pad. Hence, this mic can be used in lots of scenarios and to record many different sound sources.
- The package comes with shock mount and a nice carry case. Thus, it is a good overall investment for your studio.
- Package does not contain pop filter or wind screen. Thus, you will have to purchase one separately.
- There is no XLR cable supplied with the mic. So, this also you will have to get separately.
