AKG Perception 120

AKG Perception 120 is a very affordable entry level microphone from the big brand AKG. The Perception series from AKG was launched because the Vienna based microphone company was facing tough competition. Most of its Eastern competitors like Samson and Behringer are offering very affordable mics. How could the giant be left behind. AKG started manufacturing the Perception series from China under the AKG brand. Thus, cost control and mass manufacturing could reduce some prices. However, as we see, quality got compromised. Maybe that is the reason why the AKG Perception 120 has been discontinued. But it is still available in India, albeit at further lower prices as given below. But first let us take a look at the review scores:

5.8 Total Score
Good brand, Nice Features

This microphone from AKG is a slight compromise in quality in favor of price point. But the features it offers more than makes up for shortcomings in quality.

Besides the above-mentioned features, this microphone comes with Switchable bass-cut filter. When switched on, it eliminates low frequency rumble or footfall noise. It also has a toggle switch as attenuation pad for high SPL applications up to 150 dB. This switch reduces the gain of the input signal. Thus, this microphone can be used to record loud sound sources such as drum or distorted guitars.
